This spring, Little America, Wyoming celebrated a historic milestone with the grand opening of its completely reimagined Travel Center—following its 90th anniversary. What began as a roadside oasis in 1934 has transformed into a modern, family-friendly destination, and the community came out in full force to mark this exciting new chapter.

The grand opening festivities kicked off on Friday, May 16, with a nostalgic nod to classic Americana: a community drive-in movie night on a 35-foot screen. Families gathered under the wide Wyoming sky with popcorn in hand, enjoying a relaxing evening that set the tone for a weekend full of connection, celebration, and local pride.

The main event followed on Saturday, May 17, drawing hundreds of guests to the newly expanded Travel Center. The day featured a ceremonial ribbon cutting, a classic car show, and a street fair-style celebration filled with family-friendly activities, food, giveaways, and entertainment. The energy of the day was unmistakably local, punctuated by a standout performance from the Green River High School Marching Band, who helped open the ribbon cutting ceremony with spirit and flair.

Spencer Riggs, General Manager of Little America Wyoming, welcomed guests and shared what the renovation means to the property’s future:
“Our goal has always been to provide the best experience for our guests. With this new Travel Center, we’re taking that commitment to the next level—providing faster service, better amenities, and a more comfortable visit for everyone.”

The newly renovated Travel Center, nearly double the size of the original space, features an added 3,500 square feet of service area designed for smoother flow, enhanced comfort, and greater convenience. Visitors now enjoy:

  • Expanded food and beverage options, including made-to-order artisan pizza and a fully loaded baked potato menu
  • A larger dining area and improved grab-and-go section
  • An enhanced frozen drink and fountain station
  • Self-serve kiosks alongside full-service counters for faster ordering
  • A greatly expanded retail area featuring souvenirs, gifts, and locally made Wyoming products—including Shumway Farms ice cream
  • And for families, the debut of Wyoming’s largest travel center playground, making Little America a true destination stop for kids and parents alike

Tony O’Brien, Vice President of Operations for Little America Hotels & Resorts, reflected on the property’s long-standing legacy and its commitment to the future:
“As we celebrate this milestone, we’re reminded of the generations of travelers who made Little America and our famous ice cream cone part of their journey. This renovation is just one of the ways we hope to thank them and ensure that we continue to be a welcoming destination for years to come.”
